The Towpath Handicap is a summer race series held on Tuesday club nights, where runners set off at staggered start times with the goal of finishing together. The handicap system allows runners of differing abilities to compete together and rewards consistent improvement over the series.
There are seven races which are held every two weeks. The current course starts at the Elmbridge Canoe Club and goes to Sunbury Lock and back, covering a distance of 5.5 miles.
The Towpath Handicap shield is awarded to the runner with the lowest handicap score in the series. Prizes are also given for the best men's and women's scratch times.
